GriefPrevention
Automatic grief prevention using a golden-shovel claim system. Players claim land themselves with zero admin configuration needed.
What is GriefPrevention?
GriefPrevention takes a self-service approach to land protection. Instead of admins drawing regions, players claim land themselves by right-clicking two corners with a golden shovel, and everything inside that claim is automatically protected from other players — no chest locks, no per-block setup. Claims cost claim blocks, which players accrue over time spent online, naturally limiting how much land any one person can lock down. Trust levels let owners grant friends build, container or access permission, and admins get override tools and automatic anti-grief features like explosion protection in claims.
Who it's for: Survival and SMP servers that want grief protection to be effortless for players and zero-maintenance for staff. Ideal where you do not want to manually manage regions for a large playerbase. It is built and maintained by RoboMWM and sits in the protection category.

How to install GriefPrevention
GriefPrevention runs on Bukkit, Spigot or Paper servers. The RoboMWM-maintained continuation tracks current Spigot/Paper releases and remains compatible with a broad range of server versions.
- 1Stop your server, or have it ready to restart. Always back up your world and plugins folder before adding a new plugin.
- 2Download GriefPrevention.jar (a build matching your server version) and place it in your server's /plugins folder.
- 3GriefPrevention has no required dependencies, so it runs on its own once the jar is in place.
- 4Start the server fully. GriefPrevention generates its configuration files on first launch — stop the server, edit them to taste, then start again.
- 5Confirm it loaded by checking the console for GriefPrevention on startup, or by running one of its commands in-game.
Note: Drop GriefPrevention.jar into /plugins and restart — it works out of the box with sensible defaults and an SQLite store, so no database setup is needed for a single server. For an economy that lets players buy claim blocks, install Vault and an economy plugin; otherwise claim blocks accrue purely from playtime.

GriefPrevention FAQ
How do players claim land?
Give them a golden shovel (the default claim tool), then right-click one corner of the area and right-click the opposite corner. GriefPrevention outlines the claim and protects everything inside it automatically. /claim creates a claim around the player instead.
What are claim blocks?
Claim blocks are the currency of land. Each claimed block of area costs one claim block, and players earn claim blocks slowly while online (plus a starting allowance). This caps how much land a player can protect and is why long-time members can claim more than newcomers.
How do I let a friend build in my claim?
Stand in your claim and run /trust <player> for full building rights, /containertrust for chest and container access only, or /accesstrust for door and button use only. /untrust <player> removes them. Trust applies to all your claims unless you target one specifically.
Can admins override claims?
Yes. Staff with griefprevention.adminclaims can toggle admin mode to ignore claim protection, inspect claims with the stick tool, and delete or adjust any claim. Admin claims themselves never expire and have no claim-block cost.
Do claims expire if a player stops playing?
They can. GriefPrevention supports claim expiration based on player inactivity, configurable in config.yml. By default unused claims from players who have not logged in for a long time can be released so the land becomes available again.
